July 25, 2014. After it was announced that IHOP – International House of Pancakes – was coming to Boone last November, the real estate sign in front of the former Blockbuster was taken down. Then after sometime of little to no construction, the real estate sign popped back up – as it stands today.

Folks around town were talking as if IHOP had changed its mind or something fell through. But IHOP still has plans for Boone, and right now lots of construction and renovation work is taking place on the 1.22-acre parcel along Blowing Rock Road. That location is just a block away from the Waffle House that has been open for several months.

Speaking on Friday, IHOP spokesman Craig Hoffman mentioned that an “estimation” on the opening of the IHOP is mid September – less than two months away.

According to Watauga County Register of Deeds, SE BB Boone, Inc., purchased the property for $866,500 on June 12, 2013.
