Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music Presents ‘Traditional Fiddle, Banjo and Song’ Saturday, Oct. 25

Oct. 24, 2014. On Saturday, Oct. 25, Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music will present the music of The Stuart Brothers and Alice Gerrard. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Boone.

Travis and Trevor Stuart of Haywood County will take the stage to showcase their well-known mastery of Appalachian fiddle and banjo duets. The brothers were born in the rural farming community of Bethel in Haywood County and learned from their youth from the best of the best.

stuart“With deep family musical roots, their great grandfather was the legendary fiddler Rev. Henry King, and great uncle the banjoist and singer Austin Stamey,” read the brothers’ biography. “The brothers learned some of the oldest regional fiddle and banjo styles from masters such as the Smathers Family, Byard Ray, Oscar ‘Red’ Wilson, Gordon Freeman and the Sutton Family.”

The Stuart Brothers have toured extensively in the united states and abroad, and will bring their distinctive sound to Mountain Home Music on Saturday.

The brothers will share the stage with Alice Gerrard, best known for her singing with Hazel Dickens as “Hazel and Alice.” Gerrard has lent her talents to recordings and performances with many musical greats, including Beverly Smith, The Herald Angels, Tommy Jarrell, Mike Seeger, Tom Sauber and Brad Leftwich.

The performance comes just following Gerrard’s release of her newest album, “Bittersweet” which showcases some of her original work.

Advance tickets for the show are $20 for adults and $11 for students. Tickets purchased at the door on the day of the event are $22 for adults and $11 for students. Children aged 12 and under are admitted to the concert free of charge. To purchase tickets online, click here.
