“Modern Master Mash-up” will be held 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July, 6 through Friday, July 8. For ages 6-12, children will learn about the masters of modern art through two-dimensional works inspired by Van Gogh, Mondrian, Matisse, Pollock, and more.

“Campers will explore a variety of media while learning about the styles, times, and challenges faced by several masters of modern art,” said Jennifer Garonzik, Education Center Coordinator and instructor of the three summer camps. “I hope to instill courage and confidence in young artists as we create bold, expressive art this week.”

“The Art of Native Plants” will be held 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 through Friday, July 15. For ages 8-12, children will take a tour through our current exhibition of the same name and learn about the importance of native plants in our unique mountain ecology. Children will explore various forms of art such as watercolors, mosaic, printmaking, and more.

“This camp will connect the child to the beautiful and fragile plant life of our beloved mountains,” said Jennifer. “A visiting naturalist from Grandfather Mountain will lead us to a deeper understanding of the delicate balance needed to sustain the region’s amazing diversity.”

“Art Around the World” will be held 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 15 through Wednesday, August 17. For ages 6-12, children will take a voyage around the continents, learning different art and craft techniques such as painted Talavera tiles, Tibetan sand art mandalas, Panamanian mola, African batik, Hopi pottery, and more.

“I am excited to travel to distant lands with campers this week, while we explore the culture and traditional art of each region,” said Jennifer. “Diversity and tolerance will be discussed in relation to the differences we experience in culture and art.”

“Modern Master Mash-up” is $60 for members and $70 for nonmembers; “The Art of Native Plants” and “Art Around the World are both $80 for members and $95 for nonmembers.

Registration closes three business days prior to each camp. Please call BRAHM at 828-295-9099 Ext. 3001 to pre-register and reserve your spot. For questions, contact Jennifer at jennifer@blowingrockmuseum.org.
