Man Arrested in Boone after Motor Vehicle B&E, Numerous Charges Filed Including Possession of Stolen Gun

On Oct. 30 at approximately 4:15 a.m., Boone Police were notified of a breaking and entering to a motor vehicle. The resident awoke to find someone outside in his vehicle. Operation Witches Brew Nets Arrest of 54 Meth ‘Smurfers’ and ‘Cookers,’ Largest Roundup in Ashe County History

In Ashe County, “Operation Witches Brew,” a joint investigation between local law enforcement agencies, netted the arrest of 54 “smurfers” and “cookers,” who are the people who buy the products to make methamphetamine and hand it off to those that make the highly-addictive stimulant. ACSO Brief of Three Recent Arrests and Successful Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

On Aug. 15, 2014 officers arrested 41-year-old James B. Smith, of 61 Everett Clark Rd. in Newland, on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. Subsequent to the execution of a search warrant on the residence, Smith was further charged with possession with intent to manufacture and sell drugs, possession of methamphetamine and a host of other charges. On Wednesday, April 16, shortly after 6:15 p.m., a Boone Police officer responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on West King Street.
