By Jesse Wood

April 9, 2014. The Boone Police Department responded to a call of an unattended death at 718 West King Street,  Suite A on Tuesday afternoon. Nancy “Nan” Blevins Picker, 69, was found dead in her apartment.

A release from the Boone Police Department states that while no indications of foul play exists, the cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner Eddie Pippen of Hickory.

Picker operated Nandrea hair salon in downtown Boone for years. Darrel Watson, owner of Watsonatta Western World, located just across the street from Picker’s salon, said that she operated out of the West King Street location for at least 20 to 25 years and was a friendly business neighbor.

“She was always friendly every time we’d seen her. She’d be sitting out in the sun waiting for her next appointment,” said Watson. “Always nice and willing to do something for you if she could. Always asking if there was anything she could do.”
