Warm Temps To Drop Dramatically With Snow and High Winds, Bi-Polar Weather Forecast Through Sunday

By Jesse Wood

March 12, 2014. If you have been looking forward to sunny days of spring, the past few days have been marvelous.

While overcast skies and light rain is the theme for the High Country early Wednesday, the temperature will drop dramatically later on in the day, and this rain will turn into snow.

nicaraguan-weather-forecastRaysWeather.com lists a high of 59 degrees and a low of 18 degrees for Wednesday in Boone. Interesting to note that RaysWeather.com has titled the pending forecast “Shock and Awe” on its website.

“If you are standing up to read this, you may want to sit down. And while you’re there…buckle up. Okay, we don’t want to be overly dramatic, but there’s going to be some serious drama by this evening,” its always-entertaining intro to the forecast discussion reads. Snow showers are expected to accumulate in the 1 to 3 inch range.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Watauga, Avery and Ashe counties from late this afternoon into Thursday morning and forecasts westerly winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for counties that border Tennessee. This advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday

The advisory notes that rain showers will transition until snow showers this evening and will linger into early Thursday morning. It also warns of black ice and snow accumulation on untreated roads and “very cold wind chill values.”

Thursday is forecasted to remain chilly with high and low temperatures below freezing, while moderate to warm temperatures with sunshine return on Friday and Saturday before a rain and snow mix falls upon the High Country on Sunday.

All in all, we have a diverse mix of weather ahead of us.
