Jessie Borders Harmon, D. Feb. 26, 2014

Jessie Faye Borders Harmon, age 74, of 1247 Joe Parlier Road, Elk Park, passed away Wednesday morning, February 26, 2014, at her home.

Mrs. Borders is survived by one niece, Glenda Stines Roark of the home.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daney R. Harmon; one daughter, Norma Jean Campbell, and her father and mother, Walter and Fannie Brewer Borders.

Fanny Colley Teague, D. Feb. 23, 2014

Fanny Lue Colley Teague, 61, of Waterfalls Rd., Lenoir, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Born June 21, 1952 in Virginia, she was a daughter of Robert and Roxie Coffey Colley. 

She was a member of South Caldwell Family Worship Center in Hudson, and was a retired inspector at Fairfield Furniture.

Fanny was dearly loved by her family and friends, and blessed all who knew her with humor, cooking, and sharing the bounty of her vegetable gardens. 

She is survived by five children, Lueann Sawyer and husband, Arthur, of Lenoir, Jesse Teague and wife, Lucille, of Vilas, John Teague and wife, Denise, of Granite Falls, Amy Ashley and husband, Dwayne, of Boone, and Tommy Teague and wife, Carrie, of Lenoir; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Coffey and husband, Bill, of Lenoir, and Norma Jean Harris and husband, Rob, of Morganton; and three brothers, Robert Colley and wife, Margie, and Rex Colley and wife, Karen, all of Morganton, and Billy Colley and wife, Paula, of Lenoir. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James Teague, Sr.; sister, Ann Ada Teague; and brother, Clyde Douglas Coffey. 

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 25th, 2014, at 2 PM at the Austin and Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Buford Pennell and Rev. Fred Howell. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 PM at Austin & Barnes.

Barbara Jean Lewis Miller, age 59, of Pardue Road, Hamptonville, a native and former resident of Watauga County, passed away Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014.

Barbara is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Miller of Yadkinville, Jennifer Miller of Hamptonville, and Lesley Winter and husband Tim of Yadkinville; one son, Clint Miller of Hamptonville; three step-daughters, Lila Hammons of Hudson, Mary Arney and Lora Charles and husband Mike, all of Lenoir; three sisters, Kathy Pierce and husband Gene of Johnson City, Tennessee, Marie Lewis and Louise Lewis, both of Zionville; one brother, Charles Lewis and wife Debbie of Aiken, South Carolina; five brothers-in-law, Donnie Miller of Deep Gap, Joey Miller and wife Madeline of Morganton, Curtis Miller and wife Julie of Deep Gap, Kilmer Miller of Lenoir, and Kenny Miller and wife Carolyn of Blowing Rock, and two sisters-in-law, Gloria Miller and Sadie Ward and husband Johnny, all of Deep Gap. She is also survived by five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Isaac Jacob Lewis and Virginia Stevens Lewis, and one brother-in-law, Frankie Miller.

Funeral services for Barbara Jean Lewis Miller will be conducted Sunday afternoon, February 23, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Melinda Bryan. Burial will follow in Zionville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Norman D. Roark, age 62, of 1247 Joe Parlier Road, Elk Park, passed away Friday evening, February 21, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Norman was born July 1, 1951 in Washington County, Tennessee, a son of the late John and Jesse Venable Roark. He was a retired stone mason and a member and deacon of Beech Creek Baptist Church.

Norman is survived by his wife, Glenda Stines Roark of the home; two daughters, Norma Kay Bodine and husband Mark of Boone, and April Roark of Elk Park; two sons, Steven Roark and wife Stephanie of Morganton, and Travis Roark and wife Jenn of Elk Park; four granddaughters, Brianna Seeley, Shauna Seeley, Abbie Roark, and Julia Roark; four grandsons, Johnathon Morgan, Brenden Roark, Alex Morgan, and Luke Roark, and four sisters, Donna Kay Garreson of Johnson City, Tennessee, LaFonda Garland of Jonesboro, North Carolina, Teresa Holden of Bristol, Tennessee, and Lenay Laws of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Roark.

Funeral services for Norman D. Roark will be conducted Monday morning, February 24, 2014, at 11:00 o’clock, at Beech Creek Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Offciating will be Reverend Dean Shephard and Reverend Ray Ward. Burial will follow in the Stines Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday morning, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Cameron Seth Gonzalez, age 14, of Fox Trot Lane, Vilas, passed away Thursday evening, February 20, 2014.

Cameron was born March 14, 1999 in Watauga County. He was a freshman student and Private First Class in the JROTC Program at Watauga High School in Boone. He was a graduate of Parkway Elementary School.

Cameron is fondly remembered for the way he had of bringing smiles and laughter into a room. He loved it when everyone was happy, and did so much to make sure others were happy. Cameron is also remembered for his enjoyment of adventure, nature, and the company of his friends and family.

Cameron is survived by his mother, Kimberly Miller of the home; his father, William Gonzalez of Hendersonville, North Carolina; two brothers, Averey Gonzalez of the home, and Sylas Gonzalez of Hendersonville; two sisters, Jordan Gonzalez and Isreal Gonzalez, both of Hendersonville, and his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Pansy Miller of Deep Gap.

Funeral services for Cameron Seth Gonzalez will be conducted Monday afternoon, February 24, 2014, at 4:30 PM, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 3:30 until 4:30. Officiating will be Pastor Andy Watson, Danny Critcher, and Morris Cook. Private graveside services and burial will be conducted Tuesday morning at Vanderpool Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends, in the Meadowview Room of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, following the funeral service.

Donald Greenleaf, age 93, of Sunlakes, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, February l9th., 2014 in Sunlakes. 

Mr. Greenleaf is survived by two daughters, Joanna Greenleaf of Miami, Fl. and Jan Moore and husband, Raymond, of Vilas; three sons, Stan Greenleaf and wife, Vanessa of Ft. Worth, TX; Donald Greenleaf and wife, Louise, of Miami, Fl; and, Paul Greenleaf of Wellington, Kansas; six grandchildren, Terry Moore and wife, Holly, of Vilas, Johnny Moore and wife Holly, of Greeneville, TN., James and Phillip Moore, both of Vilas, Krissy Robertson and husband, Mark, of Pensacola, Fl. and Dawn Flynn and husband, Stephen, of Orlando, Fl.; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Moore of Vilas, Jonathan Flynn of Ft. Carson, Colorado, Skye and Jadyn Flynn, both of Orlando, Fl. Two nieces and one nephew also survive. 

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning, March 7th., 2014, at 11 o’clock at the First Baptist Church of Sunlakes. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o’clock, one hour prior to services at the church.

Shirley Reep Cash, age 78, of Dogwood Road, Boone, passed away Wednesday evening, February 19, 2014, at her home.

Mrs. Cash was born May 8, 1935 in Rutherford County, the daughter of the late Ray and Ann Newton Reep. She was a retired executive secretary in the placement department at Appalachian State University. Mrs. Cash was a member of Boone United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cash is survived by two daughters, Leigh Ann Cash Godwin of Boone, and Amy Stacy Davison and husband Paul of Florence, Alabama; one son, Michael Cash and wife Jodi of Vilas; four granddaughters, Jenny Bryk and husband Cory of Boone, Jamie Glover and husband Sam of Chapel Hill, Kimberly Vines of Vilas, and Carrie Ann Davison of Florence, Alabama; two grandsons, Joshua Cash and wife Jenna of Boone, and Matthew Oliver Godwin and wife Marissa of Southern Pines, North Carolina; three great-granddaughters, Cora Lynn Bryk, Adah Jo Bryk, and Lainey Cash, all of Boone; three great-grandsons, Lucas Michael Cash, and Michael Bryk, both of Boone, and Gage Godwin of Southern Pines, and one brother, Reverend David Reep and wife Faye of Troutman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.D. Cash; one son, Harold Lincoln “Link” Cash, and one brother, Michael Reep.

Funeral services for Shirley Reep Cash will be conducted Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Virginia Peurifoy and Reverend David Reep. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
