Jan. 2, 2014. On Tuesday, Dec. 31, Boone Police officers were dispatched to Ingle’s after receiving a call for an assault that had just taken place. During the investigation of the assault, the officers learned that the alleged assailant was Dustin Ryan Guy, 26, of George Wilson Road in Boone,  and began to search for Guy who was observed by witnesses leaving the scene in a dark Chevrolet SUV.

A short time later, officers were able to locate the vehicle being operated by Guy, and the vehicle was stopped on King Street in an effort to continue the investigation of the assault. When the officers approached the vehicle and attempted to get Guy’s explanation of the events, Guy sped off heading east on King Street and turned north on Water Street. Boone Police Officers with the assistance of Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputies briefly attempted to pursue the vehicle but discontinued the chase due to safety considerations since the identity of the fleeing man was known.

Boone Police officers soon located the vehicle abandoned on Queen St not far from where the pursuit had begun. A canine unit was requested and the vehicle’s operator was soon discovered in a wooded area nearby. By this time, arrest warrants had been issued for Guy and he was taken into police custody and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting public officers, and assault and battery. Guy was taken before a Watauga County magistrate where he was placed under a $25,000 secured bond pending a Feb. 20 court appearance.
