Irene McElhaney Gerken, 87, of Newland, the Land Harbor community, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Ohio, she was the widow of the late Wilbur Gerken.
Irene was a fun loving lady who enjoyed life. An avid golfer, she was very active with Land Harbor Ladies 18 Hole Golf Association and had worked with the Volunteer Avery Land Harbor Charity Golf Tournament.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Georgette Cornish, and a son, David.
She leaves behind a sister, Shirley Brown of Ohio; brothers, Edward and Edwin Kooser, both of Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews and Land Harbor friends.
Rene’ Camaret, D. Nov. 22, 2013
Rene’ Camaret, 71, of Banner Elk, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Brooklyn, NY, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved telling stories and cooking. Rene’ had served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rene’ Camaret.
He leaves behind his daughters, Danielle Wilson, and her husband, Greg, of Wilmington, Amanda Camaret of Oregon; sons, Michael Camaret, and his wife, Glenda, of Atlanta, GA, Chris Camaret of Banner Elk; his mother, Viola Massari, and her husband, Luigi, of West Palm Beach, FL; sisters, Dorian Thompson, and her husband, James, of Brooklyn, NY, Dominique Nier of West Palm Beach, FL; brothers, Ronnie Camaret of Honolulu, Hawaii, Russell Massari of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Alexander and Olivia Wilson, Lauren and Jennifer Camaret.
