A Common Voice: Another Great Year for Women’s Round Robin Networking Event

Story and Photos by Jessica Isaacs | jessica@highcountrypress.com

Leading ladies from across the High Country convened for another great turnout at the second annual Round Robin networking event hosted by Watauga Women in Leadership.

The Meadowbrook Inn played host to the event, which featured dinner and drinks, a live and silent auction, desserts from Ugga Mugga Bakery and a “speed networking” session that paired guests together for quick introductions.

Local real estate brokers Margo Lenmark and Anne Rasheed were back in their roles as emcees for the program.

Enjoy these photos from Thursday’s get-together and read what some of the participants had to say:

“It’s a way of connecting and networking. After you’ve met them you know who they are and what they do, what field of work they’re in. One person may be good in human resources, one may be good in banking, one may be good in social media. We’re all here as individuals, but it is networking for our businesses.” — Mary Louise Roberts, Market Executive at Yadkin Bank

“First of all, I always think it’s great to recognize women in any form or fashion you can. This particular organization recognizes women who are leaders — all types of leaders. We come together as a common voice to find strengths and skills as a collaborative and we lift each other up. We find the strengths that we have and we pass them along to people who may not know. We share our gifts not only amongst each other, but to the bigger community at large. I think it’s important to share those gifts not only in the High Country but beyond. For me, at the university, working with parents and students and colleagues, to be able to share our services and our gifts with those people continues to get the message out: We are women. We are strong. We continue to support each other, which is so very important today as it has always been. The woman that I have learned the most from is Cindy Wallace, our vice chancellor of student development.” — Traci Royster, Interim Director of Multicultural Student Development at Appalachian State University

“It’s an incredible resource that is essentially free. This event is a little bit of a fundraiser for us, but most of the events are free. It is a way that you can meet other women in the High Country so that when you need a resource for something you have somebody you can go to without having to go off the mountain. You know exactly who you can call. We have over 120 people, usually, at this event, and you will meet the majority of them.” — Billie Rogers, Events Director at Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce
