Watauga County Farmers’ Market

Meet and greet with your neighbors as you shop fresh local produce and handmade crafts and enjoy live music at this week’s Watauga County Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to noon at Horn in the West.

Check out products like seasonal fresh fruits and berries, local jams, jellies, mustard and honey, fresh baked breads, cakes and pastries from our country kitchens, fresh farm eggs, fresh and aged goat cheeses, locally-farmed meats and livestock, fresh herbs and herbal products, fresh-cut and dried flowers, wreaths and arrangements, farm-based crafts including wool, birdhouses, pottery, baskets, handcrafted yard art and garden furniture and large selection of plants including annuals and perennials.

 

A Cool 5 Race Weekend at Beech Mountain

The bulk of racing takes place Saturday morning with a 5-mile run; 1.5-mile fun run/walk; and a pet-friendly 1.5-mile walk and wag. All three begin at town hall at 8:30 a.m. Course-side lodging specials are available, along with multiple pre/post-race activities. Adult registration for the 5-mile run is $25 in advance and $30 race day. Youth registration (12 and under) is $10 for all races. Entry fees for the Fun Run/Walk and the Walk and Wag are $20 in advance and $25 race day.

The Krüger Brothers Headline Wayne Henderson Festival on Saturday

The Krüger Brothers will return to headline the 21st annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition, a family-friendly event on Saturday, June 20, at Grayson Highlands State Park near Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Also performing will be 10-year-old sensation EmiSunshine, the April Verch Band, the Dry Hill Draggers, the South Carolina Broadcasters, and Wayne Henderson and Friends.

Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic if you wish (no high-back chairs permitted). Meals, ice cream and a variety of concessions will be available, though are limited; picnic lunches are encouraged. A portion of proceeds will benefit scholarships for young musicians. Parking costs $5. The festival is open, rain or shine. Full details at www.waynehenderson.org.

Vintage Valle Music at Baird’s Creek Pres on Sunday

Vintage Valle Music is back this weekend with bluegrass musicians Amantha Mill, vocalist Sarah McGuire and her father Mark McGuire, classical violinist and scottish fiddle champion Maura Shawn Scanlin, the “front porch pickin’” sounds of Highway 194 and homegrown acoustic artists Damascus.

Come as you are, stay all afternoon or just sit a spell and enjoy the gift of music our neighbors bring to the “back porch” of Baird’s Creek Music is an eclectic mix of bluegrass, folk, gospel, country, patriotic, pop, jazz, old-time and new, familiar and original – whatever our artists feel led to share.  Come and join us.  There’ll be no preaching, nor passing the hat, just good-time music and neighborly visits.

Zoe & Cloyd at BRAHM on Sunday

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is about to kick off its annual Summer Concert Series with the fiddle tunes and sweet harmonies of western North Carolina’s own Zoe & Cloyd.

On Sunday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m., in the intimate setting of BRAHM’s Atrium, Zoe & Cloyd will perform a mix of original and traditional Appalachian material on fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin. This husband-wife duo features the vocal harmonies of Chris Austin Songwriting Contest award-winner John Cloyd Miller and renowned fiddler and singer Natalya Zoe Weinstein. Their music is true Americana, and the show will feature top-notch musicianship as well as engaging stories and history about the tunes and songs.

The Harris Brothers will perform on the Green Park Inn’s veranda from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday. The hotel’s Chestnut Grille will be open for dinner from 6-9 p.m. and the tavern will be open starting at 5 p.m. Pack your lawn chairs and head on over to the Green Park Inn to celebrate Father’s Day in style over dinner, drinks and music with Dad.
