Annie Ruth Ellis (Oct. 26, 1926 – Aug. 10, 2014)

Annie Ruth Eller Ellis of Elk Park, NC passed away on August 10, 2014. She was born on October 26, 1926 to the late Charlie C. Eller and Rose Miller Eller.

Annie Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J.D. Ellis, her sisters, Alma Bowlick and Wilma Heaton, and brothers, Swift Eller and Hayes Eller.

She is survived by her four children, Patricia Edwards, and husband Gary, of Elk Park; Pamela Jameson, and husband Charles, of Roan Mountain, TN; David Ellis, and wife Kathy, of Elk Park; and Jane Bumgarner, and husband Chris, of Elk Park. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, including Meredith Edwards Marinelli, Caroline Edwards Turner, Megan Edwards, Johanna Jameson Stanfield, Annie Ellis, Katie Ellis, Carter Bumgarner, Cassie Bumgarner, Luke Tatum, Molly Tatum Nelson, Tina Jameson-Brown, and Scott Jameson and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Eller and wife Ann of Elizabethton, TN, sister’s-in-law Christine Eller of Elizabethton, TN, Mary Evelyn Martin, and huisband, Curtis, and Helen Ellis, both of Elk Park, NC; as well as several special nieces and cousins, including Barbara King, Lynn Ann Beam, and Joanne Blair.

Annie Ruth was a life long member of Heaton Christian Church. She worked for 30 years at North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton, TN and then for 32 years at Leon Holder Wholesale, until 2006.

Services for Annie Ruth Eller Ellis will be held at Heaton Christian Church, Curtis Creek Road, Elk Park, NC on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with Paul Cole officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the service hour, Wednesday evening at the church.

Gleason Harmon (Aug. 5, 1933 – Aug. 7, 2014)

Gleason Lee Harmon, age 81, of Crossnore passed away on August 7, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Avery County, he was born August 5, 1933 a son of the late Orville and Verna Young Harmon.

He was a member and Deacon of Pineola Baptist Church, Linville Lodge #489 and was a retired Fireman of Crossnore Volunteer Fire Department.

Gleason enjoyed fishing, model cars and trucks, being in the outdoors, farming Christmas Trees and Apple Trees and teaching his grandkids.

Along with his parents, Gleason was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Harmon.

Gleason has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Betty Cornett Harmon of the home; sons, Danny Harmon and wife Teresa of Marion, John Harmon and wife Angie of Crossnore; daughter, Tammie Smith and husband Denver of Crossnore; grandchildren, Jason Carpenter, Kasey Harmon, Cody Smith, Rachel Harmon, Braxton Harmon, Katie Hall, Zac Hall, Bleu Harmon; sisters, Mary Carpenter and husband Lon, Maudie Johnson and husband Johnny; six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gleason Lee Harmon will be conducted on Monday, August 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Pineola Baptist Church with Rev. Rufus Biddix officiating. Interment will follow in the Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Carey Lynn Loven (Sept. 10, 1943 – Aug. 7, 2014)

Carey Lynn Loven, Jr., 70, of Pineola, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.

A native of Avery County, he was born on September 10, 1943 to the late Carey Lynn Loven, Sr., and the late Miriam “Moody” Mortimer Loven, both of Pineola, NC.

A life-long business man, Carey Lynn Jr. was president of his lumber and sawmill operation in Pineola, C.L. Loven Lumber Company, Inc. Very Passionate about his trade, the company, founded in 1941, has thrived under his leadership since he purchased it from his father in 1971. For several years he was also a co-owner of another lumber mill near Asheville, NC.

As a hobby he was very interested in stock car racing and for many years had the Loven Racing Team in the Late-Model sport with his brothers Joe and Jimmy. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family around the home and while on vacation, and was very fond of his many animals that included dogs and cats.

Active in the community, Carey Lynn, Jr. was a member of the Pineola Presbyterian Church, where he currently and on many occasions in the past served as an elder. He was also a member of the Linville Masonic Lodge #489.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Carolyn Johnson Loven, who passed away in 2012.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Lynn Loven Holtsclaw and husband Mike Holtsclaw of Pineola; grandson, Carey Lynn Holtsclaw of Pineola; brothers, Joe Loven, and wife Phyllis Loven of Gray, TN, Jimmy Loven, and wife Susan Loven of Greenville, TN, Bobby Loven, and wife Pamela Loven of Pineola; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with Masonic rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Pineola Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Pineola Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, August 9, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church. Active Pallbearers will be: Wayne Buchanan, Shawn Tucker, Dexter Eggers, Kenny Hughes, John Hughes, Brandon Whitehead, Robert Buchanan, Timothy Dyer, and Phillip South. Honorary pallbearers will be: Freddie Coleman, Tommy Huskins, John Loven and Robby Loven.

Steve Lail (Sept. 12, 1946 – Aug. 5, 2014)

Steve Lail, age 67, of Hickory passed away on August 5, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

A native of Catawba County, he was born September 12, 1946 a son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Brown Lail.

He was a member of the Holiness House of Prayer in Taylorsville where he was an Evangalist.

Steve enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.

Steve has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Brenda Arnett Lail of the home; daughters, Stephanie Thomas of Hickory, Holly Coffey of Hickory, Keisha Arnett of Newton, Crystal Calloway of Conover; Ashley Fagians of Greenville, TN; sons, Maynard Calloway of Hickory, William Calloway of Conover; sisters, Charlotte Crane of Hickory, William Calloway of Conover; brothers, Joseph Lail of Hildebran, Stanley Lail, Jr. of Hildebran; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Steve Lail will be conducted on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Roy Arnett and Rev. Raymond Isom officiating. Interment will follow in the Tanglewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
