July 15, 2014. The parking lot by Courtyard by Marriott in Boone was filled with ambulances, fire trucks and patrol vehicles as a 44-year-old man had been threatening to jump from a fourth-story window of the hotel since about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Boone Police spokesman Shane Robbins.

Any entrances to the back of the building where the incident occurred and a section of the fourth floor were cordoned off by officials with Boone Fire Department, Boone Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and Watauga Medics.

“Just before 12:45 p.m., Boone Police negotiators were able to talk the man into surrendering. He was served with involuntary commitment papers and transported for an evaluation,” a release from the Boone Police Department states.

Due to the nature of the incident, Robbins said that no other information that could identify the man would be release.
