July 10, 2014. Mother Nature offered a fine sunset – and some gusty winds – on Tuesday evening.

Banner Elk-based photographer Todd Bush shared this photo with High Country Press and had this to say: “We had some pretty color in the sky last night along with some wild winds that blew through here. Notice the blurred motion during exposure of the central trees, some of them bent way over as [the wind blew].”

Bush said the view is from Balm, just outside Banner Elk looking due north. Snake Mountain (north of Boone) is in the far right and is partially visible. Beyond that Mount Rogers, Va., is in the mist. Straight ahead is looking toward Oliver Hill and beyond that into Tennessee.

To see more of Bush’s images check out www.bushphoto.com. Also, Bush recently published a new coffee table book that depicts Blowing Rock. It’s called “Blowing Rock: Crown of the Blue Ridge” and is the second in a series depicting towns of the High Country. In 2011, Bush published “Banner Elk – Jewel of Appalachia.”

Upcoming book signings of “Blowing Rock: Crown of the Blue Ridge” at events sponsored by the Blowing Rock Chamber Of Commerce:
  • Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Blowing Rock’s Art in the Park at the American Legion.
  • Friday, July 25, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.  at Chetola Resort for Symphony by the Lake
