Lori Ann Washburn Furr (July 10, 1963 – June 3, 2014)

Lori Ann Washburn Furr passed away Tuesday June 3, 2014 with family. She was born on July 10, 1963 in Coral Gables, FL and spent most of her life in Charlotte, NC before moving to Rock Hill, SC.

An accounting graduate from UNCC, Lori loved diving into the details of every challenge that came her way. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend who gave generously of her time to Pilgrim UCC and Girl Scouts. A life time Girl Scout member, Lori celebrated her love for the “out of doors” as a Girl Scout Leader and Backpacking trainer.

She is preceded in death by her father Roland Washburn and brother Andrew Washburn. She is survived by her mother Jean Washburn; daughter Christina Furr; brother Robert Washburn and wife Glenda; sister Elizabeth Moore and husband Brian; and seven nephews and nieces.

Her family will receive friends on Friday June 6, 2014 from 5:30 – 6:30pm at the McEwen – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road in Charlotte, followed by her funeral service at 6:30pm.

Interment will be at 3:30pm on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Mount Lawn Memorial Park in Boone, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lori’s memory may be given to Hospitality House of Charlotte, 1400 Scott Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203.

Jean Day Keller VanHoy, age 76, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, a native and former resident of Watauga County, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, South Carolina.

Funeral services for Jean Day Keller VanHoy will be conducted Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Burl Greer, Reverend Les Thomas and Reverend Raymond Spann will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include, one daughter, Regina Maxfield and husband Scott, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, one Grandson, Taylor E. Maxfield, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, one step-daughter, Jo Stahle and husband Bruce, of Asheville, North Carolina, two Step-Granddaughters, Kristina Stahle, and Stephanie Stahle both of Asheville, North Carolina, one sister, Zelma Shore, of Blowing Rock, and one brother, Coleman Day, of Lenoir, North Carolina, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kermit D. Keller, her second husband, Wilson A. “Bill” VanHoy, her father and mother, Raymond B. Day and Ida Blanche Greene Day, and one sister, Della Auton.

Randall Lynn Munday (Nov. 29, 1963 – May 31, 2014)

Mr. Randall Lynn Munday, age 50, of 1559 Sutherland Road, Creston, died Saturday, May 31,2014, at Ashe County Memorial Hospital.

Randall was born November 29, 1963 in Watauga County, a son of Earle Jean Ellison Munday and the late Kermit C. Munday. He was a registered nurse and a member of Elk Knob Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, Randall is survived by a daughter, Heather Munday of Creston; one step-son, Michael Lathem of Creston; a daughter, Jessica Salyers and a son, Joshua Munday, both of Tucson, Arizona; one step-grandson, Justin Lathem of Creston; a special friend, Chris Vickers of Wilkesboro, and one brother, Terry C. Munday and wife Melissa of Creston. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, a niece, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a first cousin, Timmy Shelton.

Funeral services for Mr. Randall Lynn Munday will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2014, at 2:00 o’clock, at Elk Knob Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend J.C. Greene. Burial will follow in the Ellison Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, and Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the home of his mother, 1511 Sutherland Road, Creston, North Carolina.

Donald Greer (March 22, 1928 – May 30, 2014)

Mr. Donald Greer, age 86, of Harley Perry Road, Zionville passed away Friday afternoon, May 30, 2014 at the Davant Extended Care Facility.

Born March 22, 1928 in Watauga County he was a son of the late William Henley and Elmina Oliver Greer. Don was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was also a tobacco and cattle farmer.

He is survived by his wife Ollie Belle Perry Greer, one daughter, Darlene Deal and husband Victor, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dreama Kay Greer and a number of brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Donald Greer will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Herbert McCoy. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 o’clock until 2 o’clock at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests no food or flowers and suggests memorials to Medi Home Hospice, 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 102, Boone, NC 28607.
