Appalachian State Athletics Announces Logo Changes

Appalachian State University has announced changes to its library of athletics logos, effective December 1. The biggest change is that due to its significant historical meaning and great response from students, alumni and fans since it was reintroduced as a temporary throwback logo in 2012, what has been known over the past year as the “Vintage Yosef” logo will be permanently introduced as an official secondary mark for Appalachian State athletics.

Visiting the High Country? Stay Atop Sugar Mountain, Local TDA Promotes Lodging With Winter Video

The Sugar Mountain Tourism Development hired Randy Johnson, a nationally-known travel writer, to promote winter lodging at Sugar Mountain with a video that focuses on Sugar Mountain as a premiere skiing destination on the East Coast. This video and the website www.seesugar.com are an attempt to increase lodging bookings through the Internet and create a network that connects rental operators with the rest of the world.

NWS Updates Winter Storm Warning, Snow Continues To Fall at Steady Pace Wednesday Morning

Everyone in the High Country woke up to snow after a drenching Tuesday, and the snow continues to fall at a steady pace on Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued an updated-version of its Winter Storm Warning, noting that accumulation is two to four inches in the region with an isolated five to six inches at elevations over 3,500 feet.

U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock Re-opens After Rock Slide

U.S. 321 at Cliff Dwellers in Blowing Rock re-opened at 10:15 this morning after being closed earlier in the morning by a rockslide. The slide was small and although the roadway itself was cleared of debris, it remained closed while engineers determined that the mountain slope above the road was safe.

After Rains Cometh Wind and Snow: NWS Issues Winter Storm, High Wind Warning Tuesday Evening

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m. alerting residents of Watauga County and surrounding areas that as the rain exits, a cold front will move in and “bring a round of snow” to the High Country through Wednesday afternoon. “Blustery northwest winds will cause snow to drift and may also uproot trees due to the recent rainfall,” the warning states.
