Beech Mountain Hosts the 11th Annual Mile High Kite Festival on Sunday, Sept. 1 at Beech Town Meadow

Aug. 30, 2013. It’s easy as pie to fly a kite a mile high this Labor Day weekend on Beech Mountain. All you need is a couple hundred feet of string. The 11th Annual Mile High Kite Festival takes place on Sunday, Sept. 1, in the Beech town meadow. Located more than 5,000 feet in elevation, the high-altitude meadow makes it easy for children of all ages to sail their kites up to a mile above sea level.

Spirit of Avery Event a Massive Success; Considered a ‘Fun, Educational Experience’; Photos Included

Aug. 30, 2013. The Spirit of Avery Distillery Tasting Event, which took place last night at Camp Yonahnoka, was a massive success. The event, which was sponsored by the Avery County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Eseeola Lodge and the Municipal High Country ABC Store in Banner Elk, allowed High Country residents to sample a vast array of spirits from statewide sources. ASU Student President G. Dylan Russell Highlights Concerns of Watauga BOE, UNC-ASG Resolution

Aug. 30, 2013. The Student Body President of Appalachian State University G. Dylan Russell highlights his concerns on Watauga County Board of Election’s decision to remove voting from our campus. Also inside is a resolution that was passed by the Association of Student Government (UNC ASG), a group of delegates from all seventeen UNC-System schools. The UNC-ASG supports all students’ rights to actively and easily participate in government where they attend school.

Aug. 29, 2013. The Town Tavern in Blowing Rock is airing Appalachian State University’s first football game of the season against University of Montana on their flat screen TVs. Kickoff for the game is this Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Come out in support of our local football heroes by heading out to Blowing Rock’s newest food venue and latest hot spot on Main Street.
