ERA Shows Signs of Life on 30th Anniversary of Apparent Demise – When Deadline For Ratification Expired

June 29, 2012. The Equal Rights Amendment’s apparent demise occurred exactly thirty years ago this week – on June 30, 1982 – when an extended deadline for ratification expired. International Society Honors Dr. Pamela Brewer

The Society for Technical Communication (STC) honored Appalachian State University Assistant Professor Pamela Estes Brewer in a ceremony at its annual conference in Rosemont, Ill., in May. Brewer, a senior member of the society, was named an associate fellow – one of the highest ranks that the society confers upon a member.

Free Eye Exams; Boone Lions Will Sponsor the Vision Van June 30 in the Walmart Parking Lot in Boone

June 22, 2012. High Country residents are invited to have their eyes examined for free when the Boone Area Lions Club hosts the Vision Van. The Van will be in the Walmart parking lot in Boone on Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lions are dedicated to combating the leading causes of blindness and assist in preserving vision as well as providing assistance and support to visually impaired residents of the High Country.
